By decision of the Sejm, Sunday 6 December will be a trade Sunday. The law waits for approval by the Senate and the President’s signature.

Additional eighth trade Sunday of the year

According to the Trade Restrictions Act on Sundays and Holidays and other days, from 2020, the trade ban was valid on all Sundays except seven in the year. The ban was to bypass the Sunday before Easter, the two preceding Christmas and the last Sundays: January, April, June and August.

At the session of the Sejm on 27 November 2020, MEPs voted to ease the Sunday trade ban in December, while allowing all stores to work. This means that in addition to the 13th and 20th of December, the stores will also be open on 6th December.

Decision due to sanitary safety

The decision is dictated by the current situation related to the Covid-19 pandemic. In the special period before Christmas, the intensity of purchases often increases, which is now a major threat. Therefore, the decision about an additional commercial Sunday is made mainly for security reasons. It will make it possible to spread shopping over time and thus reduce the number of customers shopping simultaneously. On the other hand, it is a tribute to entrepreneurs, which will contribute to their financial improvement.
