At present, spread of COVID-19 forces rapid adaptation and changes in operations. Thus, Carrefour invests strongly in e-commerce.
Purchases delivered in less than an hour
In cooperation with Glovo, Carrefour has been delivering fast internet shopping since early April. Shopping can be done in the application among more than 800 products from 58 Carrefour Express banner. It is available for residents of seven cities in Poland (Warsaw, Gdansk, Gdynia, Poznan, Wroclaw, Krakow and Katowice). Shopping will be delivered to their doorstep by Glovo couriers in less than an hour after the order is placed.
Carrefour doesn’t focus only on online store
In December 2019. Carrefour Polska entered Allegro with about 3,000 products in supermarket, childdren;s goods, beauty categories. At this point, the supermarket provides baskets with the most needed food and drugstore products addressed to specific groups of recipients (e.g. a basket for the senior citizen). These baskets are a response to changing consumer behaviour influenced by the ongoing coronavirus epidemic.
Carrefour not the only player who sees an opportunity in e-commerce
At the beginning of April, Stokrotka grocery store chain and the largest convenience store chain – Zabka, launched online stores as part of the pilot projects. Online shopping in Stokrotka is aviable for residents of Lublin, while in Żabka residents of Poznan. What is more, Kaufland launched an interesting service alson in April. Customers through the Mango online store have the opportunity to order a package with the most needed food and hygiene products.
Not only big players looks for new possibilities in online channel
An example is the owner of a small grocery store in Wroclaw, who a few weeks ago decided to start delivering vegetables and fruit to customers. The price list is available on her facebook page and the order can be placed via SMS. According to next.gazeta.pl, as a result of high interest, the owner of the store established cooperation with one of the Wroclaw catering companies in the delivery of purchases.
