During the pre-event for the UN Food Systems Summit 2021, IKEA announced that by 2025 as many as half of the main dishes in the chain’s restaurants were to be plant-based.
IKEA is developing its plant-based offerings within the IKEA FOOD from 2015. In August this year, it introduced vegetable meatballs, which in taste and texture are like traditional meatballs but account for only 4% of the carbon footprint compared to them. The declaration made on the occasion of the UN Food Systems Summit is another step by the network towards a more sustainable and ecological restaurant offer.
In addition, IKEA has declared that by 2025, 80% of all packaged food is to be of plant origin. Moreover, in the case of meat products, 80% of them are also to be of non-red origin.
