Kaufland as a competitor to DIY stores?

Wpis dostępny jest także w języku: polski

At the end of February Kaufland introduced horticultural products under its own brand name Countryside. The brand’s offer includes: garden furniture, tools, barbecue accessories and plant care products. It is another supermarket chain that introduces products for home and garden to its offer.

According to PMR’s estimates, the share of large grocery stores in the retail market of the DIY assortment in Poland currently amounts to almost 5%, and its share will decrease in the coming years. DIY stores (both chains and independent stores) are responsible for nearly three quarters of the retail market for renovation, finishing, construction and decorative products.

The biggest threats to DIY products in the grocery store segment include the lack of specialised service and the emergence of DIY stores in the same shopping centres where hypermarkets already exist. Also a limited offer, often appearing only seasonally, or the opening of shops with smaller retail space, where there is no room for this type of assortment.
