On 4 May, Trevor Blunden took over as commercial director of the Spar chain. He has 32 years of experience with Spar Group South Africa, where he worked in marketing, commercial and promotional areas. Additionally, he ran his own Spar shop in South Africa for 18 years.
The hiring of a new commercial director is connected with the implementation of the development strategy in Poland. The new director is tasked with introducing new solutions to the company, which will bring the expected results just after the declines caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Trevor Blunden replaces Tomasz Waligórski, who had served as director since October 2020. He was mainly in charge of the areas of e-commerce, private label, shopping and quality and marketing.
– The position of commercial director in Poland is another new challenge within the SPAR chain, with which I am strongly associated. I know that the Polish market is extremely dynamic and has huge potential. This will allow me to implement proven solutions from other markets, but also to learn about the specificity and uniqueness of the retail sector in Poland. I am convinced that I will be able to show interesting new concepts in the coming weeks – says Trevor Blunden.
In line with the chain’s development strategy, decisions on changes in the management team have already begun in 2020. On 1 December Wayne Hodson, the current managing director of Spar Sri Lanka, became the new CEO of Your Spar Store. He has been with the company for over 20 years and his presence at the Polish branch is mainly to help rebuild the losses caused by the pandemic.
