Although the coronavirus pandemic has hit the HoReCa segment very hard, some restaurant chains in Poland are planning to grow in 2020. The new restaurants are being opened by Gastromall Group, McDonald’s and Koku Sushi, among others.

Gastromall enters a new format, McDonald’s opens a dozen or so establishments

Gastromall Group, the owner of such chains as Olimp, Companeros or Polski Stol has just launched its first restaurant in the new Deli Pizza format. The restaurant is located in Bonarka City Center in Krakow. The concept of Deli Pizza is that the customer can prepare a pizza, focaccia and casserole according to their own preferences. They can choose the ingredients, from the type of dough to the type of olive oil. According to the company’s assurances, the whole process takes only five minutes.

Despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, McDonald’s is also developing. The chain has already opened eight units in 2020, and by the end of the year it is planning to open a dozen more. At the beginning of 2020, McDonald’s had 440 restaurants, 380 of which were operated in franchise format by 70 partners.

Koku Sushi: Record number of franchise agreements

Thanks to the transfer of sales to the delivery segment, Koku Sushi is also developing. Since the beginning of its activity, the chain has offered food delivery, so it has already developed appropriate tools. The experience from the lockdown period also resulted in the creation of a new format of premises, Koku Sushi Point. They are designed exclusively for the delivery and personal collection market. The prerequisite is a unit of about 40 m2 and good access. Since July, the first unit in the new format has been operating in Bialystok, while the next two – in Komorniki and Wysokogotowo near Poznan – are being prepared for opening.

In total, the year 2020 Koku Sushi will close with a record number of franchise agreements signed. In the spring and summer, the chain opened several new restaurants, and by the end of the year it plans to launch six more. The new restaurants will operate in Slupsk, Jastrzebie Zdroj, Glogow, Szczawno Zdroj, Lubliniec and Bydgoszcz. At the end of August 2020. Koku Sushi had 29 restaurants.
