“The entire fashion industry is waiting for the autumn-winter season to start for good,” said Rubin Ritter, CEO of Zalando. The long summer and the surprisingly warm start of autumn delay the sale of winter clothing and footwear. And it is these products that are the most expensive.
Europe’s largest online clothing and footwear store is forecasting an EBIT of €150-180 million in 2018. Earlier forecasts reached 220-270 million €. Zalando, already at the beginning of August, lowered its expectations in relation to the results for 2018.
The value of Internet sales of the clothing and footwear segment in Poland amounted to PLN 4.8bn in 2017, according to PMR estimates. This represents less than 14% of the entire market. The biggest player is zalando.pl, which is estimated to generate sales of over PLN 614m. In 2018, it will be overtaken by the fast-growing eobuwie.com.pl store.
