Barbora, the largest online grocery shop in the Baltics, will soon begin operations in Poland. The company belongs to the Maxima Groupe, which associates retail chains in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Bulgaria and owns the Stokrotka chain in Poland.
Barbora is currently the largest e-commerce operator of food and daily necessities in the Baltics. It started its operations in Lithuania in 2014. As a result of its dynamic growth, the company launched an expansion into other markets. In 2018, it entered Latvia and Estonia. Its turnover, which amounted to €50m in 2019, more than doubled year-on-year in the first half of 2020.
In 2020, the company focused on intensive development in the local market. It opened new distribution centres in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia due to the growing demand for fast food supplies caused by the pandemic, and significantly increased its team. The proven business model, which has influenced the company’s success in the Baltic countries, will also be implemented in the Polish market.
Barbora to begin in Warsaw
The new Barbora.pl online shop will offer Polish customers a wide range of food products and everyday articles. Residents of Warsaw will be the first to benefit from online shopping and fast delivery.
The strategic partner of Barbora and the main supplier of goods in Poland will be the Stokrotka chain, managed by the Maxima Group. The company will also look for local suppliers who can offer customers interesting regional products in various categories.
The opening of the Barbora shop in Poland is also linked to the creation of new jobs. It is planned to employ nearly 500 people, ranging from administrative and service staff to couriers and suppliers. Andrius Jurgelevicius, who has been with the company since its inception and is currently its Commercial Director, will become the President of the newly established Barbora.pl.
