By the end of 2021, the Media Expert chain will launch sales in further 8 new locations that were previously owned by the Norauto brand. This investment was made possible by a positive decision from the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKIK), which in June gave its consent for the takeover of 26 Norauto automotive shops by the electronic store’s chain.

Media Expert wants to strengthen its position on the consumer electronics, household appliances and electronic equipment market, and one of the ways to attract new customers is to invest in stationary shops. The chain is interested in Norauto stores because they are usually free-standing facilities with good access and parking, which means they meet customer preferences. The owner of the Media Expert chain, TERG SA, has applied to UOKiK for permission to acquire 26 Norauto brand stores in December 2020. The authority’s decision, received in June 2021, allowed it to begin the process of adapting the acquired Norauto stores to the needs of electronic stores. According to Michał Mystkowski, Media Expert’s spokesperson, the chain may decide to make further acquisitions of this type in the future, if the chosen locations meet the requirements in terms of standard and retail potential.

Media Expert shops, which were established in the place of automotive stores, have already started operations at the end of September in Sosnowiec, Bielsko-Biala and Katowice. The chain plans to open a further eight electronic stores, and by the end of 2021, the outlets will have opened in Kraków, Wrocław and Białystok. According to data for May 2021, Media Expert owns more than 500 shops located in over 330 cities in Poland. They serve more than 70m customers a year.
