Carrefour Polska, in pursuit of its strategy of reducing plastics and improving the environment in general, has launched the first refilling station in the Carrefour BIO store in Warsaw’s Bemowo district. Under this initiative, customers have the opportunity to fill reusable packaging with selected cosmetics. The project was created in cooperation with the cosmetics brand Yope and the startup Swapp!

First refill stations

The first vending machines appeared in stationary YOPE boutiques. In the Carrefour they will be used on similar terms. Place the 500 ml bottle in  specific place, mark the specific product on the screen and pay for it with a card in the machine. In case of lack of its packaging, it is also possible to buy or rent a stainless steel bottle. So far, the offer includes natural Yunnan shower gel, Natural Oat Milk Shampoo, Natural mild antibacterial soap and Natural Verbena Liquid Soap. Cosmetics sold from the vending machine are 15% cheaper due to the deducted value of the packaging.

Introduction of Zero Waste

Carrefour is the first retail chain in Poland to join the Sustainable Plastics Pact. Carrefour’s goal by 2025 is to reduce the weight of plastic packaging by 300 tons. So far, the chain has already introduced cotton bags for fruit and vegetables, the possibility of buying products by weight in their own packaging or coffee in their own mug.

A similar initiative can be boasted by Rossmann, which introduced a filling machine for OnlyBio cosmetics and OnlyEco cleaning products in one of their stores in Lodz.
