What will Endomondo’s users choose next?

As of 31 December 2020, the Endomondo application will cease to work. Its users will be able to download and save the data registered there.

Endomondo has been on the market since 2007. Endomondo’s platform manufacturer, Under Armour, will no longer offer technical support for the application, but encourages the transition to its second product (MapMyRun, MapMyRide). However, other competitive applications can also benefit from Endomondo’s withdrawal.

Leading fitness app is shutting down

According to a survey conducted by PMR in October 2020, Endomondo remains the most popular application for recording physical activity. It is used by 35% of respondents (i.e. people buying sports products). The next few had significantly fewer indications. Samsung Health is used by 13% of respondents (16% women and 10% men) and the Strava application is used by 4%. In the case of the latter application, the trend is reversed and men choose it more often (7% vs. 2%). MiFit and Hueawei Health received 2% of the indications.

Wearables with their own apps

Additionally, watchmakers started to invest in their own applications (Garmin Connect, Polar Flow, Suunto App). Every fifth respondent uses sports watches. More popular device for monitoring physical activity are smart wristbands that allow you to count your steps, monitor your heart rate, track your route or plan your workout (e.g. Fitbit, Mi Band, Garmin Vivosport). They are used by 31% of the surveyed group.
